Dear Commander McCarthy.

A golden retriever trapped her whole life in a greedy-driven, USDA-licensed “puppy mill” was recently tortured to death by sadists who didn’t care enough to even give her a name.

When the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) learned that she had been tortured to death, they named her Goldie.

Goldie, who should be alive, healthy, and happy in a loving home today, was forced to live in untold agony by USDA inspectors who watched her deteriorating condition for months and yet made no effort to save her.

While the USDA licenses commercial dog breeders and is responsible for protecting the animals bred in its facilities, Goldie’s story is undeniable evidence that the agency is not doing its job, and Congress must act now.

I urge you to lead the Republican Support for Human Resources 6100, also known as “Goldie’s Act,” to aAmending the Animal Welfare Act, That would force the USDA to conduct frequent and thorough inspections to protect innocent animals, issue penalties for cruel treatment, close facilities if necessary, and report cases of animal abuse and neglect to law enforcement.

Emmanuel Kant said, “We can judge a man’s heart by his treatment of animals.”

What will your efforts to pass HR 6100 say about your heart?

It is considered,
