Animal activists and the local fire brigade rescued a seven-year-old dog who had accidentally slipped deep into an open gutter in Ferrar (East) by first breaking the toilet floor to reach the stricken animal.
‘The dog has been stuck for nearly 10 hours inside the gutter since 5 a.m. Saturday,’ said AWBI Animal Welfare Honorary Officer and Karuna Trust Virar member Mitesh Jain. We got a call from Namita Redkar, an animal lover, telling us that dog barking sounds are coming from below the ground floor toilet in Laxmi Darshan Apartment Building, Virar (East). With a few volunteers and fire brigade personnel, we rushed to the site.”
Jain added that the dog’s barking sounds had stopped by the time the rescuers got there. “However, as soon as he started demolishing the floor of the RCC toilet, the dog again began to bark because he realized that some activity was going on above the gutter where he was trapped. Finally, by the afternoon, the animal in distress was rescued and immediately washed to clean,” Jane said.
A veterinarian was also called to examine the animal.
“The successful and painstaking rescue of the dog brought a smile to everyone’s faces, as they were relieved to see the dog alive, despite being on hold for 10 hours. We also thank the fire officials for responding quickly to our emergency call.”
